Each year we are proud to partner with Into Film to deliver our annual programme of professional development in film education.  For the autumn term, these terrific sessions will be available online as a series of webinars. Topics include Raising Literacy Attainment, Careers in Film, Mindfulness and Getting into Film – using it as a tool for learning.

SET THE SCENE: FILMMAKING FOR EDUCATORS 

Set the Scene is a free programme that offers professional development in film literacy, filmmaking, and exhibition to teachers and educators via a collaborative approach between Screen Education Edinburgh, City of Edinburgh Council Creative Learning Team, Into Film, and Centre for the Moving Image. Work carried out is funded by Screen Scotland. Set the Scene is delivered as part of the Edinburgh City Film Education Programme.

Secondary: S4-S6 CLPL in Filmmaking

The following sessions are offered to teachers working with S4-S6 pupils. They are delivered as a series but you can sign up to as many or as few as you like. They are designed to be of particular interest to Media Studies teachers but are open to all working with these year groups.

Camera, Sound, and Lighting, 2-4pm, Friday 8th October 2021

Learn about the technical application of camera, sound, and lighting in film and how to get the best out of your equipment. Resources will be provided as part of the session to help you lead your pupils in filmmaking.

Story Development, 2-4pm, Friday 15th October 2021

Learn strategies and methods to best devise and develop your film narrative, whether your pupils are working independently or as a class. Resources will be provided as part of the session to help you lead your pupils in developing their own film ideas and scripts. 

Planning and Shooting, 2-4pm, Friday 29th October 2021

Whether you’re making a film with a class of 30 or working with your pupils on their individual films, this session will help you to visually plan a film using storyboards and shot lists, as well as devising film schedules. Resources will be provided as part of the session to help you lead your pupils in carrying out their film shoots.  

Editing, 2-4pm, Friday 5th November 2021

Post-production is essential to ensure a professional finish to any film. Learn how to use film editing software to cut a film, add music, credits, and other effects to make sure your film is the finished article. Resources will be provided as part of the session to help you lead your pupils in editing their films.

These sessions are delivered in two parts and should be booked together.

Filmmaking in the Classroom for Secondary – Session 1, 2-4pm, Friday 10th September 2021

Filmmaking in the Classroom for Secondary - Session 2, 4-6pm, Wednesday 15th September 2021

Sessions will involve practical filmmaking activity, as well as strategies for managing a filmmaking project with an entire class. The sessions are designed to get you started making films with young people, using devices such as mobile phones or iPads. Our resources are curriculum linked and in line with GTCS plans and priorities to help you get the most out of filmmaking in the classroom.


Primary: P4-P7 CLPL in Filmmaking

These sessions are delivered in two parts and should be booked together.

Filmmaking in the Classroom for Primary – Session 2, 4-6pm, Wednesday 22nd September 2021

Our resources are curriculum linked and in line with GTCS plans and priorities to help you get the most out of filmmaking in the classroom.

Camera for Primary, 2-4pm, Friday 1st October 2021

A more advanced session on the technical application of camera and how to get the best out of your equipment when working with P4-7 pupils. If you are new to film, we recommend taking our Filmmaking in the Classroom Sessions first before attending this session, however, this is not a pre-requisite.
