Inside Hana's Suitcase

Screening to be followed by Q&A with Hana's brother and Holocaust survivor George Brady and Japanese teacher Fumika Ishioka.

Hana Brady was just a little girl when she and her brother George were singled out as Jews, and sent away from home by the Nazi's. 70 yeasrs later a class of Japanese children doing a project on bullying received a package from the Holocaust museum in Germany. It contained what appears to be Hana's suitcase and from this starting point the children and their teacher begin to unravel the story.

Blending documentary, archive and reconstructions, the film tells Hana's tragic story, and her brother's more hopeful one, A moving film which deals with the difficult subject of the Holocaust, and a wider theme of tolerance. The film is narrated by children in Japan, Czech Republic and Canada, who have all leanrt the story of Hanna and her suitcase. Will support Religious and Moral Education, Social Studies and CfE Levels 2, 3 and 4.

Filmhouse are delighted to work with The Scottish Inter Faith Council. The Scottish Government, Holocaust Memorial Trust and Edinburgh Inter-Faith Association on this very special event to mark Holocaust Memorial Day. George Brady, Hana's brother, and Holocaust Survivor is one of the key speakers at the National Holocaust Memorial event in Dundee on 26 January and it is with great pleasure that he and Fumika Ishioka will attend this Edinburgh screening.
