70mm Road Trip!
Thu 16 Feb 2012
After we'd gone to print with our February programme, featuring the David Lynch retrospective, we discovered that the BFI had moved the date of their Dune screening back a few days to Friday 17 February. This gave us a problem with our screening on Sunday 19, as a 70mm film print is a big and extremely heavy thing, and to get it shipped from London on a same-day service was going to cost a fortune.
We considered our options, and even got a 35mm print of the film sent to us so we could consider it as a substitute, but it wasn't in great shape and would have disappointed you, our lovely customers.
So, we've hired a van, and a dedicated member of staff is setting out on the morning of Friday 17, with a friend to keep her company, to drive to London to pick up the print after it's screened at BFI Southbank on Friday evening, and get it here in plenty of time for its screening on Sunday.
As they're going anyway, we decided they might as well stop off at the National Media Museum in Bradford to collect the 70mm print of Alien, screening on 21 March, to save us shipping costs on that too.
And, as the Media Museum also have a 70mm print of Aliens... well, it would be rude not to really, wouldn't it, so we're now screening it as well, on 10 April!
The van has been christened the Nostromo, the intrepid crew members are Ripley and Jones, and they'll be tweeting photos and progress reports on Friday and Saturday under the hashtag #GoNostromoGo
We take our mission, to show you great films in the best way we possibly can, seriously!
