The first week of screenings in October 1978 comprised a mini-season of four Rainer Werner Fassbinder films, beginning with The Bitter Tears Of Petra Von Kant, which screened twice on Monday 9 October in what is now Cinema 2 (then only seating 90, and not expanded to its current 100 until some time later). Screenings were then of either one film twice nightly or one double-bill, and ran Monday through Saturdays only. Entrance to the cinema was via Morrison Street Lane only (aka Chuckie Pend). Fassbinder might well have been Filmhouse's favourite director in its first years, with regular screenings of all his new films and a number of double-bills and late-night screenings of his works besides.
To celebrate this you can buy a Filmhouse membership for 34% off until Sunday 14 October. Just quote "Birthday" when buying your membership to receive the offer.
