Win tickets to international opera and dance streamed live at the Festival Theatre

The Festival Theatre are offering a pair of tickets to each screening in their live cinema season, Edinburgh audiences will be able to enjoy the best opera and ballet from some of the most spectacular opera houses and theatres in the world, beamed straight into the comfort of the Festival Theatre.


The theatre auditorium provides a unique viewing experience on a massive 12.5m x 7m screen.

To celebrate the bicentenary of Verdi's birth the Festival Theatre will be screening three Verdi Operas live from Teatro alla Scala (Nabucco), Opera National de Paris (Falstaff) and Taormina's Ancient Greek Theatre (Rigoletto). With a Valentine's Day screening of Notre Dame de Paris from La Scala, why not treat that special person to a romantic night at the ballet?

NABUCCO Giuseppe Verdi

majesty: the threatening Babylonian emperor stalks through a world of
contrasts, starting with that of the Jewish people he has subjugated. The
music gives life to interwoven events served with a generous helping of
pride, resentment, superstition and the spirit of conversion.

NOTRE DAME DE PARIS Roland Petit
Thu 14 February 2013 7pm
Streamed live from the Teatro alla Scala in Milan. Choreographer
Roland Petit’s dramatic, passionate story revolves around Esmeralda,
Quasimodo, Frollo and Phoebus: four great characters inspired by
Victor Hugo’s 19th-century Romantic novel. Featuring costumes by
Yves Saint-Laurent and a score by Maurice Jarre of Doctor Zhivago fame.

FALSTAFF Giuseppe Verdi
Tue 12 March 2013 6.30pm
Streamed live from Opéra National de Paris. For his last masterpiece,
Verdi found the material for the comedy of his life-long dreams in the
story of this old, penniless and pot-bellied knight: a huge roar of laughter,
which still reverberates in us a century later.

RIGOLETTO Giuseppe Verdi
Tue 9 July 2013 8.30pm
Streamed live from Taormina’s Ancient Greek Theatre. Verdi’s masterpiece
is full of love, intrigue and passion and tells the story of court jester
Rigoletto and his beautiful daughter Gilda. Filled with some of Verdi’s
most famous melodies, Rigoletto is considered to be one of his greatest
accomplishments and continues to enthral audiences worldwide.
