Filmhouse Recommends is our daily pick of three films from the 2015 Edinburgh International Film Festival that we think our audiences will particularly enjoy. Check back each day during the Festival for tomorrow's recommendations!

45 Years (18:10, Cineworld)

The newest film from multi-award-winning director Andrew Haigh (Greek Pete, Weekend), 45 Years has already risen to prominence as a key British film for 2015, having won both the Best Actor and Actress awards at this year's Berlin Film Festival for the incredible performances of Tom Courtenay and Charlotte Rampling. As their characters approach their 45th wedding anniversary party, their fractured relationship is tested by a tormenting echo from their past.

The Newsroom - Off the Record (18:20, Cineworld)

This riveting look inside the headquarters of Danish publication Ekstra Bladet - referred to by the filmmakers as 'the most criticised paper in Denmark' - provides an extraordinary glimpse of what goes on behind the scenes of today's tabloid journalism. Covering a year in which the paper launched its online edition, went through major redundancies and experienced a crisis over its handling of a Somali hijacking of a Danish ship, this report on reporters is a bona fide scoop for director Mikala Krogh.

Fidelio, Alice's Odyssey (20:30, Odeon)

The directorial debut of Lucie Borleteau (who collaborated as a writer on White Material with Claire Denis), Fidelio, Alice's Odyssey is a compelling look into the physical, sexual and emotional journeys of its title character. Played by the striking Ariane Labed (Attenberg, Alps) - who won Best Actress at the 2014 Locarno Film Festival for the role - Alice's odyssey begins when she makes the spontaneous decision to sign up as engineer on the seagoing Fidelio. Gradually, she finds herself in a relationship with her former lover - now the ship's captain - but also inextricably drawn to the diaries of the dead man whom she has replaced.
