This project is led by CMI’s Board and Senior Management Team, with support from property consultancy Montagu Evans.

Due to the significance of this project to Filmhouse and to Edinburgh, we intend to consult as widely as possible on this proposal.  This consultation stage will officially run for 4 months from 11 March to 12 July 2020. In response to the impact of COVID-19 on our consultation plans, the end date has been extended and new digital content has been added.

And we’re looking for input from you, from our customers, our partners and stakeholders, and from the people of Edinburgh; to gauge support for our plans and further develop the designs before submitting a formal Planning Application to the City of Edinburgh Council during the summer. It is at that point that people will be able to comment directly to the City of Edinburgh Council as part of the formal process.

Our pre-application consulation process ends 12 July. Please submit your feedback here (click link): TELL US WHAT YOU THINK

Wednesday 24 June, 1pm and 7pm

Thursday 25 June, 10am and 4pm

Book your place and submit questions by email to future@filmhousecinema.com

Please request to book on one event only to allow the maximum number of people to take part.

Whilst the in-person events and open days originally planned to support this consultation have unfortunately had to be cancelled due to coronavirus measures, we are pleased to invite you to take part in one of four live online public events on June 24th and 25th, 2020.

To take part in one of these events, please send an email to future@filmhousecinema.com stating your name and which event you can attend and we will respond with information on how to join the Zoom meeting.

To help manage the anticipated level of interest in these events we are inviting you to submit questions via email in advance to future@filmhousecinema.com. We will collate questions into themes and address them through a sample of questions rather than all if numbers require, but ensuring all aspects have been addressed. We will also be drawing on the many comments received so far through our online survey which is still open. If time allows we will also answer questions submitted live during the event.

The events will each last one hour and consist of a short introduction and presentation with the majority of time focused on responding to your questions.

Timescales

This indicative timeline below is entirely dependent on the achieving a positive Planning Application decision and securing the necessary funds to commence construction.

Whilst the current Filmhouse building is temporarily closed due to ongoing Coronavirus outbreak, we are looking at how we can reopen safely for customers and staff later this year. If we are successful in achieving Planning Permission for the new building (we hope to hear by Spring 2021) then at that point we will decide how we continue to deliver the Filmhouse experience whilst we wait for our new home to be completed.

Indicative timeline:

  • Pre-Application Consultation: 11th March – 12th July 2020

  • Planning Application submitted: August 2020

  • Planning Application decision: Anticipated by Spring 2021

  • Fundraising Campaign: Launches 2021

  • Building work:  Aiming to commence by Summer 2023

  • New Filmhouse opens: Aiming for late 2025
