Filmosophy returns with a new season of thought-provoking films and discussions. In recent years, several high-profile cases of misogyny and the abuse of male power have shone a spotlight on the issue of masculinity – from politics to the film industry. In addition, the LGBTQIA and feminist movements have presented significant challenges to outdated yet prevalent notions of male identity and privilege. The films in this season offer a timely insight into the nature of masculinity and force us to question what it means to be a ‘real man’.

Each film will be preceded by a short introduction and followed by an accessible and informal post-screening discussion led by James Mooney (Centre for Open Learning, University of Edinburgh).
