Double Bills

As part of our season on India's most celebrated director, Satyajit Ray, we're bringing you two double bills. Firstly, on Monday 11 December, Rabindranath Tagore, a black and white short film on the life and works of the noted Bengali author, screens with Charulata, arguably Ray’s definitive masterpiece which is based Tagore's story Nashtanirh. On Wednesday 13 December, Kanchenjungha follows a Bengali family as several complex dramas unfold whilst on holiday in Darjeeling, and is followed by Sikkim, an educational and controversial look into the kingdom nestled between Nepal Bhutan and Tibet.BUSTER KEATON

Special Events

On Friday night we have a special one-off 35mm screening of one of the most memorable horror films of the 80's, Hellraiser. On Saturday we have Pink SarisKim Longinotto's award-winning documentary which celebrates the Gulabi Gang (Pink Gang), a group of women in India's northern Uttar Pradesh state's Banda who are standing up against oppression. 

This Sunday's Filmhouse Junior screening is The Son of Bigfoot, which follows the story of teenager Adam as he sets out on an epic quest to uncover the mystery behind his long-lost dad. Also on Sunday, we're proud to welcome composer, musician and broadcaster Neil Brand to Filmhouse as he presents an afternoon of Buster Keaton

Next week, Tomas Alfredson's vampire tale Let The Right One In is screening as part of our Growing Pains season, whilst the selection of films programmed by our House Guests Young Fathers finishes up on Thursday with Wolf Children. Also on Thursday, Saturday Night Fever shows off John Travolta's best dance moves...The Day of the Jackal

States of Danger and Deceit 

A new season on European political thrillers of the 1970s programmed by HOME Manchester, States of Danger and Deceit continues on Sunday with The Day of the Jackal - charting the story of a professional assassin codenamed "Jackal" as he plots to kill Charles de Gaulle, the President of France, whilst on Monday we have States of Siege, a gripping thriller about kidnap and murder in South America. Both screenings will be introduced by Dr Pasquale Iannone (The University of Edinburgh).
