Our monthly “Over the Rainbow” strand heats up this July with a fierce retrospective of queer filmmaking icon, Céline Sciamma.
Self-coined as an “architect of multiple desires”, Sciamma’s films build on themes of adolescence, gender fluidity and queer love through a real and gentle lens. Her highly-acclaimed coming-of-age trilogy (Water Lilies 2007, Tomboy 2011 and Girlhood 2014) widely secured her place as an evocative screenwriter in contemporary French cinema. In 2019, she was awarded the Best Screenplay and Queer Palm awards at Cannes Film Festival for her directorial feature, Portrait of a Lady on Fire.
This program celebrates Sciamma’s distinct filmmaking style, and cinematic journeys that capture immense richness, beauty and discovery, with a mass appeal across the global audiences.
