In non-distant future, electronic corporations have built a “nonlinear” – an android theoretically capable of replacing a human being. To verify this information, UNESCO organises a mission to Saturn during which highly reputed pilot Pirx is supposed to evaluate “nonlinears” for use in space service. He knows one of the crew members is a robot, but he doesn’t know which one. During the expedition, he tries to find out the truth while playing a dangerous game with his secret opponent. It turns out that the “nonlinear” is a threat to the whole crew. Pirx discovers that its perfection can only be challenged by human weakness.
The screening will be introduced by Dr Malgorzata Bugaj, Teaching Fellow in Film and Media at the University of Edinburgh's Centre for Open Learning.
