Filmhouse gets greener
Mon 19 Nov 2012
If you are visiting Filmhouse over the next few days you may notice some maintenance work being carried out on the main doors to the building. We apologise in advance for any difficulty caused by this work, but we are installing brand new automatic doors which will make it easier to access the building, and also save on our heating costs!
As part of an ongoing objective to be more environmentally aware and sustainable, the Scottish Government has kindly funded the installation of these new doors as a development of Filmhouse as the home of the Edinburgh International Film Festival.
As many visitors to Filmhouse will be aware, the current main doors to the venue are not very efficient at keeping the heat in and the cold out, especially in these winter months. Our new automatic doors will reduce drafts, and our heating bill, and in turn reduce the carbon footprint of Filmhouse.
This is just one of a number of changes you may have noticed around the building with the view to being a little bit greener. Last month we introduced a number of recycling bins into our public spaces; these make it easier for our patrons to be as green as possible on their visits to Filmhouse, and aim to reduce the waste we send to landfill.
As the home of EIFF, Filmhouse is also one of a number of venues taking part in Festivals Edinburgh’s Green Venue Initiative that seeks to aid festival venues throughout the city to be more sustainable. This support ranges from assistance with how we monitor electricity usage, through to specialist workshops on being more environmentally aware. Future developments that we have planned as part of the GVI include the creation of a company-wide environmental policy, and changes to some of the lighting around the building.
These initiatives are only the start however. Filmhouse and the Edinburgh International Film Festival are dedicated to reducing carbon emissions, allowing our customers to continue their green objectives whilst visiting our building, and being as environmentally sustainable as possible without compromising our products and service.
We hope you like the new doors and apologies for any inconvenience caused on your visits to Filmhouse this week. We believe that this development work will benefit us all in the future.
