Young Programmers are a group of 15 to 19 year olds with a real passion for film! Meeting weekly, together they curate films for Filmhouse and for the Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF), and co design the programme, the promotion and the delivery of their screening events.
Young Programmers is an excellent opportunity for young people who are serious about film to take part in a well-established, vibrant and innovative cinema and film festival.
Young Programmers meet at Filmhouse, Edinburgh, every Monday from 4.15pm to 6.15pm mid-September to April, and for the twelve days of the Festival. We watch and discuss a wide range of films and learn about film programming. Young Programmers select films for Filmhouse as part of Moving Cinema and curate their own 90 minute programme of short films for EIFF. This is a really exciting opportunity to work as part of the Filmhouse and EIFF team to present exciting new cinema for other young people!
Previous Young Programmers have written copy for Festival publications, hosted Q&As with visiting filmmakers and worked as part of a team to present exciting new cinema for other young people. All participants have an opportunity to meet filmmakers and industry professionals using their EIFF student pass, which gives access to industry events, press and industry screenings and lots of other great events and benefits. In return, we ask that participants to show commitment and enthusiasm and provide us with a review of their experiences at EIFF. Check out our EIFF Youth 2019 highlights reel here.
Remember to look out for our Young Programmer Picks in our brochure, where they share with you the films that are on their must-see list.
